GEO Business 2018, taking place in London from 22-23 May, is fast approaching and the action packed 5th instalment of the largest geospatial show in the UK is getting ready to break some records.  Firstly, with registrations currently tracking 27% ahead of this time last year, as many as 3000 visitors from across the world are expected to attend this free event.

Sold out Exhibition showcasing leaders in geospatial technology and services

The exhibition is also breaking boundaries with stands selling out not once, or twice but three times.  This expanded area helps to house over 200 exhibitors who have all chosen GEO Business as THE place to do business.  Companies including Survey Solutions Scotland, Atkins, Bentley, Topcon, HM Land Registry, Leica Geosystems, Viametris, Trimble, Clicks and Links, Malcolm Hughes, Faro, Stonex, The Coal Authority, Bridgeway Consulting and many more will all be in attendance.

Cutting-edge seminar programme demonstrating the remarkable impact all things ‘geospatial’ are having on our global environment

The real jewel in the 2018 programme is the brand new series of FREE to attend seminars where attendees will learn how the UK Government’s Digital Built Britain programme is evolving, how technologies like BIM, Visualisation and Augmented Reality are interacting with new data sources like Big Data, Linked Data and Earth Observation data from satellites. They will hear about projects where the latest cutting-edge sensors and systems are being used to capture data quickly and safely using technologies like terrestrial laser scanning, imaging total stations, drones and airborne LiDAR.

Attendees at these free seminars will also hear about how these technologies are being used on major projects like Crossrail and the Thames Estuary Asset Management 2100 scheme; how surface mapping for road inspection ahead of re-surfacing can now be carried out much more rapidly; how new monitoring systems are helping alert and protect building owners and occupiers in the vicinity of tunnelling for the Northern Line Extension.  Seminars will feature real-world case studies that show how cost and risk can be reduced as well as productivity increased. Seminars will be delivered by leading award-winning experts, researchers and opinion formers from across the private, public and academic sectors.

Try before you buy in the commercial workshops

This seminar programme compliments the ever popular, hands-on commercial workshop sessions that includes nearly 100 manufacturer and developer led sessions allowing buyers to ‘try before you buy’.  Each workshop provides the very latest developments in geospatial technology, practice and applications.

Place & Location Technologies at the heart of the GEO Business Conference

‘Geospatial: The 4th Industrial Revolution’ is the powerful yet daunting theme of the one day programme, taking place on 23rd May.  Simon Navin from Ordnance Survey comments, ‘There is no denying that we are in the middle of a technological revolution that is altering the way we live, move, work, and communicate with one another. Due to its velocity, scope and systems the transformational impact is unlike anything humans have experienced before.  This new era is rapidly becoming known as the 4th industrial revolution and the conference will celebrate, challenge and develop the role that geospatial has to play in maximising the digital economy as part of this revolution.’

The highly anticipated keynote from William Priest, the Director of the newly launched Geospatial Commission, will provide an overview of the Commissions’ objectives following the Autumn 2017 statement.  Key areas of discussion around the future for geospatial will take place in the form of a panel debate featuring industry heavy weights Charles Kennelly the CTO of Esri UK, Miranda Sharp who heads up Smart City Practice at Ordnance Survey, Andrew Trigg the Head of Data at HM Land Registry and Ed Parsons, Geospatial Technologist at Google.  Facilitator Abi Page from AGI laid out the focus of the debate.  “This session promises to deliver lively participation both from the panel and the floor.  We want answers to difficult questions like how is geospatial enabling the growth of existing and emerging industries? What is the future of the “traditional” geospatial industry as this revolution continues and how can the UK maximise value from data linked to location?”

Social events designed to keep visitors networking

There are several networking events for visitors to take part in at GEO Business.  Anyone who is registered to attend GEO Business can join the team for a welcome drink on Monday 21st May at the Radicals and Victuallers from 6pm-7.30pm a great way to start off a very busy few days.  More popular than ever before is the GEO Business Ale Trail, a free to attend event hosted on the show floor from 4pm on Tuesday the 22nd May.  Finally, the Emirates Stadium, is home to Arsenal football club and the GEO Business annual dinner this year.  This historic club is steeped in history dating back to 1886, 132 years later, the 2017 FA Cup Winners have seen some of the most gifted footballers in the world don the famous red and white strip.  Just a short distance from the Business Design Centre, guests will enjoy an evening marvelling at the surroundings of one the UK’s top football clubs whilst enjoying a sumptuous three course meal – and they may even get a photo with the FA cup!

Diversified Communications UK

Diversified Communications UK Ltd is the UK division of an international media company with a successful portfolio of sector leading exhibitions, conferences, publications and websites. Industry events with relevance to the geospatial marketplace include the International and European LiDAR Mapping Forums, the SPAR Point Group 3D Imaging events and the Ocean Business event in Southampton. www.divcom.co.uk

GEO Business is the UK’s biggest geospatial event for everyone involved in the gathering storing, processing and delivering of geospatial information. Launched in 2014 and organised in collaboration with the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (ICES), the Association for Geographic Information (AGI), the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), The Survey Association (TSA) and the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).

The Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (ICES)

The Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (ICES) is an international qualifying body dedicated to the regulation, education and training of surveyors working within civil engineering. ICES is now recognised as the leading chartered professional body for civil engineering surveyors. They have introduced relevant and meaningful competencies for geospatial engineers and commercial managers which make a difference. www.cices.org

The Association for Geographic Information (AGI)

The Association for Geographic Information (AGI) exists to represent the interests of the UK’s GI industry; a wide-ranging group of public and private sector organisations, suppliers of GI software, hardware, data and services, consultants, academics and interested individuals. The AGI, by way of its unique membership forum, brings together this previously disparate GI community to share ideas on best practice, experience and innovation, and offers access to unparalleled networking opportunities with significant business benefits. As such it acts on behalf of the community as a whole. Since its formal inception in 1989, it has built up a significant membership base and established itself as the respected voice in GI and is the membership body for everyone with an interest or involvement with GI. http://www.agi.org.uk

RICS – the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors

RICS – the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors – was created in 1868 in the United Kingdom. It received a royal charter in 1881. Their members are known as chartered surveyors, and are recognised by the designation after their name – FRICS (for Fellow of RICS) or MRICS (for Member of RICS). Today we are a global property professional body which aims to: regulate and promote the profession; maintain the highest educational and professional standards; protect clients and consumers through a strict code of ethics; provide impartial advice, analysis and guidance. www.rics.org

The Survey Association

The Survey Association, known generally as TSA, is the trade body for commercial survey companies in the UK. The association was formed in 1979 to give a focus for private sector businesses in land and hydrographic survey. It is important to realise, however, that it is not a regulatory body. The role of TSA is to promote best practice amongst its members, provide a forum for members for discussion, debate and continuing professional development and, to the wider audience such as engineers and architects, provide guidance on new methods and techniques and a list of suitably qualified and experienced companies. www.tsa-uk.org.uk

The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)

The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) strives to promote and progress civil engineering. ICE was founded in 1818 and was granted a royal charter in 1828 where they declared that their aim was to “foster and promote the art and science of civil engineering”. That is still their aim today and they represent around 80,000 members worldwide. http://www.ice.org.uk/
